What is LinkedIn?

LinkedIn is an online social network platform providing employment-oriented online services that operates via websites and mobile apps which started in the year 2003.  This social platform is primarily used for specialized professional networking and career development and allows job seekers to post their resumes and employers to post jobs, creating real-world professional relationships. LinkedIn is the largest professional networking website having 756 million members in more than 200 countries worldwide in 2021 (Agrawal, 2021).

Recruitment,

Recruitment can be defined as the process of retrieving and attracting able applications for employment (Price, 2007).From traditional job boards to using virtual space job posting has come a long way. Nowadays most leading organizations and their hiring managers are willing to use low-cost, time-saving, and more effective ways of hiring people.

Here In Sri Lanka,

In the Sri Lankan context, it is a fast-growing and more reliable source for recruiters to hire people as its users keep growing. “There were 1 343 000 Linkedin users in Sri Lanka in February 2021, which accounted for 6.3% of its entire population. People aged 25 to 34 were the largest user group (790 000)” (Napoleon, 2021).

In this case, HR will focus on every option available which helps them to get through and gain an advantage to the organization. There is no doubt that LinkedIn will be one of the most reliable sources to select candidates as LinkedIn will be updated very regularly, simply having access to candidates, employment history data, and the ability to refer recommendations.   2. How are you going to reach out to potential candidates if they aren't on LinkedIn? Not everyone is active or has a LinkedIn account, as we mentioned in our blog post about why social media doesn't always work for recruiters, so think carefully about who you can target and how you'll do it.
